HONORING YOUR SACRED JOURNEY

The Role of the Doula

As your doula, I am prepared to provide you with informational, emotional, physical, psychological, social, and spiritual support. I am available to educate, cultivate, and illuminate.

I can step in to be your support person if needed. I can be a guardian, a sentinel, your advocate. I can help to facilitate your informed decision-making process from education to empowerment.

Or I can step back to be more on the periphery when you have all that you need and are being fully honored, listened to, and respected. I trust birth and can be patient, trusting your body and instincts, and allowing for the unfolding of a natural sequence.

I can help you integrate your experiences as well as listen to and be present for the integration of your baby’s experiences.

I can be your companion on your transformational journey.

“We are the only species of mammal that doubts our ability to give birth. It's profitable to scare women about birth. But let's stop it. I tell women: Your body is not a lemon.”

- Ina May Gaskin, American midwife, author, & educator

My Approach

I view pregnancy, birth, and parenthood as a journey. I trust birth to unfold naturally as it is a normal physiological process. Most of the time, it does not require medical intervention. In addition, birth can be emotional, spiritual, and/or psychological. However it manifests for you, I honor the sacredness of your unique experience as you participate in the passage of your baby (or babies) into this world. As part of your chosen team, I am passionate about helping you access the resources you need in order to make informed and embodied decisions, to connect with your inner wisdom and instincts, and to trust your body. My mother-centered approach is rooted in attuned listening, connection with nature, and the art of being present. For inspiration and perspective, I draw on the ancient wisdom of the Kahunas/Huna Philosophy, Breema’s Nine Principles of Harmony, and The Matrona’s Holistic Stages of Childbirth.

“Experiences have clearly shown that an approach which ‘de-medicalizes’ birth, restores dignity and humanity to the process of childbirth, and returns control to the mother is also the safest approach.”

-Michel Odent, French obstetrician & childbirth specialist
